Marvin Elementary School: What Buyers Should Know Before They Buy in Marvin

Marvin Elementary School, at 9700 Marvin School Road, serves kindergarten through fifth grade and earned an A on North Carolina's School Performance Grades for 2025-2026, according to the school's report card page. If a Marvin address is on your list, check the school by the address, not by the neighborhood name.

Quick Answer: Marvin Elementary earned an A state grade and exceeded expected growth for 2025-2026, according to the school. It is one of two Union County elementary schools with Mandarin Immersion, and kindergarten seats are filled by lottery. Jennifer Ledford of The Ledford Group at eXp Realty helps Marvin buyers confirm school assignment by address before they make an offer.

I'm Jennifer Ledford, and Marvin is one of my lead markets. Buyers ask me about the elementary school early, often before they ask about the lot or the HOA.

I won't call a school "great" for you. That's a judgment, and it isn't mine to make for your family. What I can do is give you facts you can check and show you where to look.

What do the school's own numbers show?

The Marvin Elementary report card page says:

- The school earned an A School Performance Grade from the NC Department of Public Instruction, based on 2025-2026 End of Grade testing in grades 3 to 5.

- Students exceeded their expected growth that year. - It is the school's fourth year in a row as an A school, and the second year in a row with both an A and exceeded growth.

The school lists these programs: Leader in Me, which the school describes as a school-wide program that helps students build leadership skills, the UCPS EmpowerEd model, Mandarin Immersion, Elementary Battle of the Books, and the media center. The principal is Dr. Scott Spencer, and the 2026-2027 school year is the school's 24th.

A state grade is one measure. It won't tell you what a Tuesday looks like for your child. Call the school at 704-296-6357 and ask about a visit.

What is Mandarin Immersion at Marvin Elementary?

Union County Public Schools says two elementary schools have a Mandarin Immersion model: Kensington Elementary and Marvin Elementary.

According to the district's program page, the program starts in kindergarten, and each cohort moves up a grade together. Students learn math, social studies, and science in Mandarin, and take art, music, and PE in English. The page says late entry past kindergarten is rare unless a student already has a foundation in speaking, reading, and writing Mandarin.

The seats go by lottery. UCPS says the lottery is only for rising kindergarten students, and that siblings of current students also have to apply. The timeline on the district's admission page runs like this:

- February 1: register for kindergarten at your zoned school in Infinite Campus.

- March 9 to April 2: submit an application in Scribbles for each immersion school you want.

- By April 20: families are told their status.

- April 27: deadline to accept an offered seat.

Those dates came from the district page I read this week, and they can change from year to year. Confirm them with UCPS at 704-296-9898 before you plan around them.

I could not find two answers on those pages: whether a home address affects the lottery, and what happens to a family that moves in after the window closes. Ask UCPS both questions. A signed contract on a home does not hold a seat, so timing matters if immersion is on your list.

How do I find the school assigned to a Marvin address?

Use the district's "What School Do I Attend?" tool, which is linked from the UCPS enrollment page. Enter the address, then call the school to confirm. UCPS tells parents to contact the school in their attendance area to confirm the assignment.

Do this for every home you're serious about, before your due diligence period ends. Attendance zones can change, and a listing sheet is not a source. I never promise that a specific home is assigned to a specific school.

One helpful detail from the UCPS enrollment page: a signed purchase agreement, builder agreement, closing statement, or deed counts as a primary proof of residence, as long as it includes a valid future closing or possession date. You pair it with one more document, like a utility bill dated within the past 30 days.

Which Marvin neighborhoods do buyers compare?

Marvin Creek, Providence Downs South, and Marvin Commons are three Marvin neighborhoods buyers often compare. I won't tell you from memory which of those addresses feed Marvin Elementary. Check each address with the district tool, since the answer can differ from one street to the next.

Look at the whole path while you're at it. Marvin Ridge Middle and Marvin Ridge High are the next schools on most buyers' lists, and the same address check applies to both.

What's nearby once you've checked the school?

Marvin doesn't have a downtown, and that's by design. Buyers here are usually choosing space and privacy, and then driving a short way for everything else.

Marvin Efird Park has walking trails and open green space. Cane Creek Park in Union County covers more than 1,000 acres of trails, fishing, and camping, about 20 minutes away. For groceries and errands, Stonecrest Shopping Center, anchored by Whole Foods, is about 5 to 10 minutes from Marvin, depending on where you start.

How do I help Marvin buyers with school questions?

Before we tour, I ask which school facts matter to you: the program, the commute, the calendar. Then I run the address check on every home we're considering and note the date I ran it. That's part of the Committed Client Method: full representation means I handle the details that don't show up in listing photos.

Frequently asked questions

What grade did Marvin Elementary get from North Carolina? Marvin Elementary earned an A School Performance Grade for 2025-2026, based on End of Grade testing in grades 3 to 5, according to the school's report card page. The school also reports that students exceeded expected growth. A state grade is one measure, so I suggest visiting the school too.

Does Marvin Elementary have Mandarin Immersion? Yes. Marvin Elementary and Kensington Elementary are the two Union County Public Schools elementary schools with a Mandarin Immersion model. Kindergarten seats are filled by lottery, so call UCPS at 704-296-9898 to confirm the current timeline.

How do I know if a Marvin home is assigned to Marvin Elementary? Enter the address in the UCPS "What School Do I Attend?" tool, then call the school to confirm. Zones can change, so a listing description is not enough. I recommend doing this before you make an offer.

Does buying a home in Marvin guarantee a Mandarin Immersion seat? No. UCPS says its lottery is for rising kindergarten students, and families have to apply through the district's application system during the window. Owning or contracting on a home does not hold a seat.
