Which gyms and studios are in South Park?

According to a SouthPark community wellness guide, which may be older, these are some of the options and addresses:

- Harris Express YMCA, 4625 Piedmont Row Drive. The Y's page lists a 12,648 square foot fitness floor with cardio, strength machines, and free weights. It's for members 16 and older.

- Hustle House Fitness, 3151 Apex Drive. The guide describes 50-minute strength-based HIIT.

- BK Pilates, 3151 Apex Drive, focused on alignment, breathing, and core strength.

- Motion Fitness, 2101 Rexford Road, with personal training, group classes, and physical therapy.

- Solidcore, 4400 Sharon Road, low-impact strength training on reformer machines.

- RockBox Fitness, 4401 Barclay Downs Drive, with boxing, kickboxing, and functional training.

If you're looking at Barclay Downs, RockBox is on the street. Check the map for the others against the neighborhood you like, whether that's Foxcroft, Beverly Woods, Stonehaven, Montibello, or Sharon Woods.

What about the Dowd YMCA?

The Dowd YMCA is at 400 E Morehead Street, Charlotte. The Y lists indoor pools, an aquatics center, a 10,000 square foot rooftop exercise space, a yoga studio, a basketball gym, and racquetball courts. It's a real option if you work uptown, but it isn't a South Park gym. I'm saying so because some lists place it here.

Where can I walk, run, or bike?

McMullen Creek Greenway. It's part of a horseshoe of connected greenways of nearly 6 miles, according to TrailLink. The trail is mostly paved with wooden boardwalks over creeks. Trailheads include Vista Grande Court off Carmel Road and 11823 Johnston Road.

Little Sugar Creek Greenway. It runs more than 19 miles from North Brevard Street to the South Carolina line, paved and mostly flat. A section runs behind Park Road Shopping Center, with access from Hillside Avenue.

Trail conditions change with weather and construction, so check the county's website before you head out.

What else makes South Park easy to live in?

South Park is walkable by Charlotte standards. You can park once and spend an afternoon without getting back in the car. Phillips Place is an outdoor lifestyle center with shops and restaurants, and Symphony Park at SouthPark hosts SouthPark After 5 concerts in summer.

Good fitness access is a daily-life detail, and it's one reason buyers move here. Walk the route, visit the gym, and see if it fits your day before you buy.

What should I check before I buy?

- Visit the gym or studio at the hour you'd go, and ask about parking.

- Ask about trial classes and guest passes.

- Walk or drive to the nearest greenway entrance from the street you like.
