What a Weddington Swim & Racquet Club Membership Adds to Daily Life, and What to Ask Before You Count On It

Lighted tennis courts and an outdoor pool at a swim and racquet club in Weddington NC

A Weddington Swim & Racquet Club membership can add tennis, pickleball, an outdoor pool, and a social calendar to everyday life in Weddington. Before you count on it in your offer, get the membership rules in writing, because I couldn't confirm the fees, the waitlist, or whether it comes with any particular home.

Quick Answer: Weddington Swim & Racquet Club, at 4315 Weddington Matthews Road, lists a pool, tennis, pickleball, and social events on its website, wsrc.us. Third-party sites disagree on whether non-members can use it, and I couldn't find posted fees or neighborhood rules. Jennifer Ledford of The Ledford Group at eXp Realty says to ask the club directly before you treat a membership as part of the home you're buying.

I'm Jennifer Ledford with The Ledford Group at eXp Realty, and I help buyers find their way around Weddington. This club is one of the first places people ask me about. Here's what I could confirm and what you should ask.

What does the club offer?

The club's website lists a pool, tennis courts, pickleball, social events, and a member login. A tennis listing on MatchTime shows 13 tennis courts, lighting, a pro shop, and programs that include new player programs for adults and juniors, team tennis, round robins, and ladders. A pickleball listing on Pickleheads shows six outdoor hard courts with lights.

Those are third-party listings, so the club's own page is the source to trust. If you play, ask for a court schedule and how courts are reserved.

Do you have to be a member to use it?

The listings disagree. MatchTime says the club accepts non-members. Pickleheads says membership is required. I can't tell you which is current, and neither site says what a non-member could use.

That's a good example of why a quick call matters. If a membership is part of why you're buying, you want the answer from the club, not from a listing.

What should you ask before you count on a membership?

Here's the list I'd bring to the club:

- What are the membership types, and what does each one cost?

- Is there an initiation fee, and is it refundable?

- Is there a waitlist, and how long is it?

- Is membership tied to certain neighborhoods, or open to anyone?

- Does a membership transfer to a buyer when a home sells, or does each owner apply new?

- What do guests pay, and how many can you bring?

- When is the pool open for the season?

The club's website doesn't spell these out, so the answers have to come from the club. Its address is 4315 Weddington Matthews Road, and the website has a membership page and contact details.

Can the seller promise me a membership?

No, unless the club confirms it. A seller can tell you they love the club, but they can't hand you a spot. Put the question in writing early, ideally before your due diligence period runs out, so you can still walk away if the answer isn't what you hoped.

What else is part of daily life in Weddington?

The club is one piece. Weddington Optimist Park has 50 acres of youth sports fields, and it's a busy hub on weekends. Cane Creek Park in Union County covers more than 1,000 acres, with trails, fishing, and camping about 20 minutes away.

For dinner, buyers mention 131 MAIN for special occasions and Little Mama's Italian for something more casual. Downtown Waxhaw is about 10 minutes from most Weddington neighborhoods if you want Main Street shopping.

Weddington has a strong HOA and community culture, with events and neighbors who tend to know each other. If you're comparing neighborhoods, ask each HOA what's included. Some have their own pools and courts, and that changes what a club membership adds.

Is a club membership a reason to pick one Weddington neighborhood over another?

It can be, if you'd use it often. If you play tennis three times a week, being close matters. If you'd use it twice a summer, it probably shouldn't drive the decision.

I'd start with the home and the neighborhood, then treat the club as a bonus until the club confirms it. I can point you to Weddington neighborhoods that match what you want, but I'd check any one address before I tell you how it connects to the club.

Frequently asked questions

Does the club have pickleball courts? A Pickleheads listing shows six outdoor hard courts with lights, and the club's website lists pickleball. Ask the club about court reservations.

Do I have to live in a certain neighborhood to join? I couldn't confirm that. The club's website doesn't post eligibility rules, so ask the club before you assume either way.
