Waxhaw Is Linking Town Creek Park to Millbridge With a New Trail: What It Means for Buyers

Wooded natural surface trail with a small footbridge near a Waxhaw NC neighborhood in autumn

The Town of Waxhaw is building a trail that links Town Creek Park to Creekview Drive in the Millbridge neighborhood. The Town describes it as about 2,870 feet long, and once it's done it will be part of the Carolina Thread Trail network. For a buyer, it's a nice feature to know about, and one you should check for yourself before you count on it.

Quick Answer: The Town of Waxhaw describes a roughly 2,870-foot natural surface trail connecting Town Creek Park to Creekview Drive in Millbridge, part of the Carolina Thread Trail once complete. The Town's last post I found, from April 15, 2026, described it as under construction, so confirm its current status with the Town before you buy nearby. Jennifer Ledford of The Ledford Group at eXp Realty tells Waxhaw buyers that a trail is a lifestyle feature, not a promise about price.

I'm Jennifer Ledford with The Ledford Group at eXp Realty. Waxhaw buyers ask me about trails and parks a lot, so I read the Town's own posts for this one. I'll tell you what they say and what I couldn't confirm.

What has the Town of Waxhaw said about the trail?

Here's what the Town's April 15, 2026 post says:

- Route: Town Creek Park to Creekview Drive in Millbridge, between Fallondale Road and Bateson Drive

- Length: About 2,870 linear feet

- Surface: A natural surface trail with a geoweb base and a compacted crushed concrete tread, meant to be an all-weather, slip-resistant surface

- Features: A 16-foot bridge, raised sections with boardwalks where the ground floods, and new drainage pipes

- Contractor: Blue Ridge Trail Works, Inc.

- Network: Part of the Carolina Thread Trail once complete

The Town said the old informal path would be closed through late June 2026, and that Town Creek Park would stay open during construction.

Is the trail finished?

I can't say for certain. The Town's post I found was from April, when the work was underway. I've seen a local report that the connection is done, but I could not confirm that on the Town's website.

So please don't take my word for it. Check waxhaw.com or call the Town's Parks and Recreation office. Better yet, walk it yourself on a weekend before you make an offer.

What is Town Creek Park like?

Town Creek Park sits at 4240 Waxhaw-Marvin Road. The Town lists it as a 19-acre community park with a playground, a pavilion, and a butterfly garden. It also has a trailhead to the Carolina Thread Trail. It's open from sunrise until 30 minutes after sunset.

If the new connection works as described, a Millbridge resident could reach the park on foot without driving. That's a daily-life detail. It's also why some buyers ask about it.

Will the trail raise the value of homes in Millbridge?

Nobody knows yet, and anyone who gives you a number is guessing. I price homes off recent sales, the condition of the house, the lot, and the first two weeks on the market. A new trail may matter to some buyers and not at all to others.

What I can say is this: it's a feature you can see, walk, and judge for yourself. That's worth more than a promise.

What should I check before I buy near a trail?

Trails are great for some people and not so great for others. Think through these:

1. Distance and sightlines. How close is the home to the trail? Can you see it from the yard? Visit at different times of day.

2. Noise and foot traffic. Weekends can be busier than weekdays. Go on a Saturday morning.

3. Property lines. Ask the seller or the HOA where the lot ends and the common area or Town property begins. A survey answers this.

4. HOA rules. Ask what the covenants say about fences, landscaping, and access points.

5. Flooding. The Town's design includes boardwalk sections where the ground is flood-prone. Ask about drainage on the lot, too.

6. Resale. Ask me for recent sales in the neighborhood. I'd rather show you numbers than guess.

If a seller or agent tells you a trail "will add value," ask what the source is.

What is it like to live around Millbridge?

Millbridge is one of the Waxhaw communities on my list, along with Kensington, Lawson, Cureton, and Longview. I don't push buyers toward one over another. I ask what you need and we narrow it down from there.

Downtown Waxhaw is a short drive and has one of the best small main streets around Charlotte, with antique shops, boutiques, and galleries. For a weekend drink, Dream Chaser's Brewery is a laid-back option. For a bigger outdoor day, Cane Creek Park in Union County has more than 1,000 acres, with fishing, hiking, and camping.

Drive times to work depend on the hour. Test your own route on a weekday morning.

What do I do next?

If a trail is on your wish list, tell me. I'll pull recent sold homes in the neighborhoods you like, and we'll check the Town's latest status together before you write an offer.

I work with buyers under a signed buyer agency agreement, which means full representation from the first showing to the last signature.
